Liverpool fans have been commenting ahead of this Newcastle United match.
An 8pm kick-off at St James’ Park.
Always a big occasion, this time arguably the biggest for a long time, give or take a cup final at Wembley.
Of course, tonight isn’t just about what could happen on the pitch.
Liverpool fans with plenty to say about Newcastle United and Alexander Isak.
Liverpool fans commenting via their Anfield Online Forum message board:
‘Not worried about our performance in this match. It will be what it will be.
Not worried about Newcastle’s performance as it will definitely be inferior to ours.
Only thing that worries me is their players assaulting ours and referees not doing anything about them. I see the occasion getting to the refs tonight. Infront of a vile thousands of blood thirsty Geordies, we will see more bias against Liverpool than there normally is. Just hoping that the players come out injury free.’
‘It’s not even that, we’ve been outfought twice last season and we simply need to stand up and want it more than they do. It’s a bigger game for them.
Along with that we need Hooper to be fair and consistent; what’s a foul for them is a foul for us and so on.’
‘Perfect weather tonight. Lets play them off the park.’
‘No way they were selling Isak before this game.
Can’t wait for the game it’s going to be epic I think. Work is dragging all day.’
‘Yeh, almost like a right of passage, keep him until they can show him why he should stay, one last attempt.
Issue is, they’ve done the total opposite of that and the lad has seen and will see something totally different, tonight will make him even more determined to get the hell out of that club.’
‘The only thing they have is physicality in the middle of the park.
We have genuine quality up front to break games open. We were 3-1 up at their place last season only for a daft Kelleher error to let them back in it.
We don’t need to fear them.. they need to fear the quality we possess in comparison to them.’
‘Newcastle are not Guardiola’s Barcelona. We will be well up for this one as well.
We are fresh and rested unlike the cup final game, and we have genuine quality up top unlike them. We score two goals, this game is over as they can’t hit a cow’s backside with a banjo.’
‘I think these posts are a little disingenuous. I don’t think one person has said Newcastle are anything extraordinary are they.
The concerns however are clearly valid – they bullied us twice last season, Macca out, we’ve looked vulnerable in transition so far which is not good against Elanga, Gordon and Barnes, plus the obvious backdrop that this game will be played with.’
‘More chance of us bidding £150m than refs being fair and consistent. I just hope our performance is at a level that takes refs out of the equation completely.
It may sound weird but I do not have any faith in English refs when it comes to Liverpool. Ofcourse they can’t change obvious decisions but they always hurt us by giving subjective decisions almost always against us.’
‘Whatever happens tonight win lose or draw , I just don’t want to see us getting bullied or allowing Newcastle to counter on us with ease.
If we lose and we do our best so be it , I just want to see lessons being learned from the issues we’ve had since January .’
‘Newcastle fans desperately trying to convince themselves that we’ve wronged them thus summer is the biggest case of psychological displacement I’ve ever seen in a transfer window.
It’s not really about us and our near UK transfer record bid for a player that is injured half the time and wants out.
It’s about their own pathetic failings. But it’s just too painful and embarrassing for them to articulate as much.’
‘Newcastle can try and convince whomever they want
They are the hypocrites in this argument
Since Isak told them he wanted to explore life away from the north east back in early July, long before we made a bid… He has not trained, he has not been used..
They are trying to bully an employee and convince the world we are the bad guys… when the truth is vastly different’
‘Newcastle haven’t beaten us in the last 17 premier league games by the way.’
‘That’s the kiss of death right there.’
‘Dreading tonight’s game mostly because of the added hostility we are going to face from the home crowd.
Hope our defense and midfield can keep a calm head and not get swayed by their aggressiveness and hostility.
Newcastle away is a tough game these days, so hope we come out of this unscathed.’
‘Anything more than a loss is a bonus for me.’
‘Macca being out – and I was concerned before that tbh – has put me firmly in the “id take a draw right now” camp.’
‘In front of their own fans with everything that’s going on and us with the midfield we will have out there I am not confident at all. Gladly take a draw.’
‘They’ve only won one game since May, against the mighty Carlisle, the Newcastle from that cup final has long since bolted.
Against Villa they couldn’t hit a barn door from 5 feet away, we most likely only need 1 goal to guarantee the win.
Their biggest threat will be wearing our number 9 shirt later this week, tonight he’ll be sat in his new house on Merseyside watching his new team win comfortably.’
‘Nyoni is playing for the U21’s today. If Mac is out and one of Dom or Jones playing RB, would have thought he’d be in the squad or at least in the travelling squad for midfield cover.’
‘Nyoni weighs about 60kg and is built like a matchstick and you want to throw him in the lions den against Joelinton and Bruno G?
They’d eat him for breakfast and still be hungry.’
‘i think there will be trouble tonight ..hope the police and stewards are up for it.’
