Liverpool are reportedly finalising their first summer transfer. It's all kicking off.
It’s set to be another major transfer window for Liverpool. The Reds shattered spending records in 2025 and are expected to make more signings in 2026.
And it appears they’re not wasting time, either. The Premier League season isn’t actually over yet but reports in Colombia suggest they’re finalising their first signing.
Journalist Pipe Sierra reports that Liverpool are now finalising a deal for 17-year-old Samuel Martinez. The teenager is currently at Atletico Nacional.
He’ll stay there for now, too. Martinez is underage and thus can’t officially join Liverpool until he’s 18, though the deal is to be completed in advance.
It’ll set Liverpool back around £1m and Martinez is to agree a five-year deal. The attacking midfielder is set for a very bright future at Anfield.
Breakout and U17 Glory
As of 22 May 2026, Samuel Martínez is regarded as one of South America's most exciting young talents. The 17-year-old attacking midfielder, who plays for Atlético Nacional's U20 side, recently shot to prominence by anchoring the Colombia U17 national team to glory at the South American U17 Championship in Paraguay. Wearing the iconic number 10 shirt, the Tuluá-born playmaker registered multiple assists and drew immense praise for his technical leadership and long-range shooting.
Transfer Speculation
Martínez's sensational performances have ignited a massive European transfer battle. A host of top-tier clubs, including Liverpool, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Atlético Madrid, and Benfica, have dispatched scouts to track the teenager. Reports suggest Martínez is eager for a move to Europe once he turns 18 next year, with initial contact already underway.
