Liverpool are in line for a huge boost with Ibrahima Konate’s injury not believed to be serious.

Konate was withdrawn early in the second half on Saturday as Liverpool were beaten 2-1 by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, losing top spot in the Premier League as a result.

Reds head coach Arne Slot delivered an update on the Frenchman after the game and said: "I don't know if it is a big injury, but what I do know is he limped a little bit and when I asked him he said he felt his quad a little bit.

“Then, for me, all alarm bells go off because in another sprint you never know if that is going to go good.

"It was also already a substitution I had in mind, maybe for a few minutes or a little bit later, because the right centre-back had a lot of ball possession and we needed to create from that position.

“We all know Ryan [Gravenberch] is quite good in that.

"It might be OK that he went off early enough but it was clear I had to take him off because he was limping."

In a massive boost for Liverpool, who welcome Manchester United to Anfield after the international break, Konate is expected to join up with the French national team on Monday at Clairefontaine, where he will undergo further tests.

That is according to Le Parisien and the French publication also claim the defender's injury is not a major concern ahead of World Cup qualifiers against Azerbaijan and Iceland.

This will music to the ears of Slot who is already facing a central defensive shortage following confirmation that summer signing Giovanni Leoni faces up to a year on the sidelines after tearing his ACL.

Furthermore, Wataru Endo - who has previously filled in at centre-back - has withdrawn from the Japan squad for games against Paraguay and Brazil because of an unspecified injury.

Alisson Becker is Liverpool’s other injury casualty at the moment after being forced off in the 1-0 Champions League loss to Galatasaray with a hamstring issue.

After missing the defeat to Chelsea, the goalkeeper will also sit out Brazil’s fixtures against South Korea and Japan, though he is a massive doubt for the Man Utd showdown on October 19.
