Liverpool have their chance to finally sign a long-term target. Bayern Munich could let him leave.
Konrad Laimer may be up for grabs from Bayern Munich in the summer. The midfielder has a deal until 2027 but negotiations for a renewal are difficult.
It seems Laimer wants quite a bit more money than Bayern are willing to offer. That's certainly the impression from Uli Hoeness, who talked about his player 'not being Maradona' and that 'he's no Harry Kane' when discussing his wage demands.
Journalist Florian Plettenberg suggests they're far apart on monetary issues, certainly. That creates a situation where Laimer could leave Bayern while they're still able to extract a fee from him.
Enter Liverpool, who tried to sign Laimer back when he initially moved to Bavaria. There were several reports suggesting the Reds wanted him to boost their midfield options, but he eventually chose Bayern.
Now, though? Laimer could be ready to move on and he's exactly the kind of midfielder Liverpool need. High energy, defensively solid, and versatile across the team - the Reds are crying out for such a player.
They have their opportunity as his contract talks stall.
Bayern Munich Performance and Stats
As of 6 May 2026, Konrad Laimer is a vital component of a dominant Bayern Munich side that has lost only twice in 46 competitive matches this season. The 28-year-old was recently named Austrian Footballer of the Year for 2025, reflecting his high level of performance. Across the 2025/26 campaign, he has recorded two goals and seven assists while showcasing his versatility by filling in at right-back and midfield. Despite a muscle fibre tear in his calf that sidelined him in late April, Laimer resumed training on 6 May. He maintains a solid reputation for his pressing and ball-winning abilities, evidenced by his recent 7.35-rated performance against St. Pauli.
Transfer Speculation and Contract Dispute
Laimer’s future at the Allianz Arena is currently clouded by a significant wage dispute. Reports from 5 May 2026 indicate that contract negotiations are at a standstill; Laimer is reportedly seeking €12m–15m per year, while Bayern are unwilling to exceed €10m. This impasse has alerted Liverpool, with Uli Hoeneß's recent blunt comments suggesting the club may consider a sale this summer rather than losing him for free when his contract expires in 2027.
International Standing
A key leader for Ralf Rangnick’s Austria, Laimer is a guaranteed starter for the 2026 World Cup this June. Austria, competing in their first World Cup since 1998, will face Argentina, Algeria, and Jordan in Group J.
