Liverpool now have the ‘best chance’ to sign Kennet Eichhorn after Bayern Munich have pulled out of the race.
The 16-year-old midfielder is seen as one of the brightest young talents in German football, and several top clubs including Liverpool and Manchester City are vying for his signature.
Bayern were heavily linked with a move for the young talent, but they pulled out of the race after hearing the player’s absurd salary demands.
Last month, Christian Falk explained the situation why it could be a big problem for Bayern Munich to sign Eichhorn.
Falk said: “He’s got a big transfer fee attached (for German clubs, less so for English clubs) of €12m [£10.3m]. But there’s also a signing fee, and the player’s salary demands are not quite small (given the number of offers on the table). Such to the point that even Borussia Dortmund are saying it’s too much for them. And if it’s a problem for Dortmund, you can bet it will be a problem for RB Leipzig.”
The Bild journalist has told CFBayern Insider that Bayern have stopped all negotiations with Hertha, and likewise Dortmund could pull out of the race.
The highly-gifted midfielder has a transfer fee of around €9m, and on top of that, any potential suitor need to pay a signing fee of around €10m, which means a total package of €19m [£16m] for the youngster.
Falk adds that Liverpool have the ‘best chance’ to sign Eichhorn, while RB Leipzig could also join the race and make it interesting.
The Reds could face competition from Premier League rivals, Manchester City for the youngster’s signature, but they cannot bring him to England at the moment.
Eichhorn is not allowed to play in England before he turns 18, which means, the Reds (or City if they sign him) will have to loan him back to Germany for the next two years.
Bayern were prepared to take a gamble on the young talent and were prepared to provide him a contract, but the demands made by his camp left them in no position to negotiate further.
Liverpool are set to undergo a major process of rebuilding in the summer transfer window, and they are expected to spend heavily once again on several new players.
Eichhorn is an investment for the long term, and frankly, it is a big gamble, as Liverpool cannot take him directly into their academy. Rather, they will have to loan him out, and hope he maintains the same level of progress.
