Liverpool ‘have contacted’ Xabi Alonso over Arne Slot succession | OneFootball

Liverpool have contacted Xabi Alonso’s representatives about potentially replacing Arne Slot next season, As reports.

The Reds say the 47-year-old will remain in post until the end of the season at least. Even so, succession planning appears to be under way.

Alonso, 44, was dismissed by Real Madrid on 12 January. Early feedback from his side is said to be positive about a move next term.

Despite a difficult spell in Madrid, Alonso remains highly regarded across Europe. The former Spain international, 114 caps, impressed with Bayer Leverkusen from 2022 to 2025.

Bayern Munich and Liverpool had already approached him before he returned to the Spanish capital. A return to the north of England, where he made 210 appearances for Liverpool between 2004 and 2009, is viewed as increasingly likely.
