Liverpool now have a chance to sign a dream midfielder in the summer.
Richard Hughes will be focusing on the midfield come the next transfer window. It remains to be seen where Liverpool will finish in the Premier League table.
Right now, Champions League football next season is under serious threat. Both Chelsea and Manchester United are in a much better position than the Reds.
Where Liverpool finish and whether they can secure European football will determine the kind of players the club can attract.
We wrote recently about an impressive midfield shortlist that included the likes of Warren Zaire-Emery, Ayyoub Bouaddi, Kees Smit, Elliot Anderson and Adam Wharton.
However, they won't be the only players on the club's radar. In fact if there is no Champions League football, Liverpool may have to look at alternative options.
One player who should be on the club's radar regardless of where they finish is Caleb Yirenkyi. Anfield Watch understands the club's scouts are keeping a close eye on him.
The Reds need a versatile back-up midfielder to add to their ranks. Yirenkyi is exactly that. He is a 20-year-old midfielder with a lot of experience already under his belt at Nordsjaelland.
What makes him an ideal player for the Reds is that he can play in a number of different roles. Yirenkyi can be used as a holding midfielder and as a no.8.
For Nordsjaelland he has played as the deepest of a midfield three this season but he has also played as the right-sided midfielder for the Danish side in the past.
Interestingly, he can also play as a full-back. This is where he has been used for Ghana at international level but he has played a few games in the position for his club, too.
Yirenkyi's age and versatility makes him an attractive prospect for Liverpool. It means he could come in and play 30-40 games in a season even as a squad player.
What is also very important to highlight about him is that he is an excellent player. Yirenkyi has a good technical ability and a high IQ. He is extremely secure on the ball.
He is constantly scanning when he's out of possession and it means he makes decisions a lot quicker once he does receive the ball, making him ideal for a team that gets pressed a lot.
When his team loses the ball, Yirenkyi has a lot of intensity in his game. He covers a lot of distances and he is very much an aggressive midfielder who presses opponents and reads the game well.
Nordsjaelland deploy an intense high press system, and Yirenkyi thrives in this set-up, winning possession regularly for his team in the opposition's half and in the final third of the pitch.
According to a report in TEAMtalk he is available for €25m with Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United also interested in him so that means there is a lot of competition for Liverpool to land his signature.
However, because Nordsjaelland are open to letting him go, there's a golden chance for Liverpool to swoop in ahead of their rivals and land a player who is simply a dream option.
