A shortlist of head coaches has come to light as pressure mounts on Arne Slot at Liverpool. The Dutchman must turn things around ASAP.
Liverpool are in woeful form in recent weeks, winning just one of their last six Premier League matches. Things appeared to have got back on track after wins against Aston Villa and Real Madrid, but the Reds followed that with a 3-0 defeat at Manchester City.
They were thoroughly outplayed in Manchester, too. Liverpool couldn't find any real rhythm in the fixture and conceded poor goals from their point of view.
It's a world away from last season, where Arne Slot's team walked to the Premier League title after enjoying a sensational run of form to kick off the campaign. Second-season-syndrome is in full effect now, however.
Slot will need to find something that works, then. The current system isn't a great fit for the players he has - not after the mass overhaul Liverpool went through in the summer, anyway.
It piles pressure on a head coach who was on top of the world just a few months ago. And now a shortlist of potential replacements only increases that pressure.
The Daily Mail's Lewis Steele reports that 'Sebastian Hoeness (Stuttgart), Roberto De Zerbi (then Brighton, now Marseille), Michel (Girona), Ernesto Valverde (Athletic Bilbao) and Luciano Spalletti (then Italy, now Juventus)' were on Liverpool's initial shortlist to replace Jurgen Klopp.
They were joined on that list by the likes of Ruben Amorim and Xabi Alonso. And, of course, Slot himself.
These are the coaches who could have ended up as Liverpool boss, then. It's a list that will largely be the same if the Reds do choose to move on from Slot anytime soon.
