Liverpool Injuries Update and Key Return Timelines

Liverpool head into a defining stretch of their season battling an escalating injury list, just as the Champions League returns to Anfield. Arne Slot, already juggling form, rotation and tactical cohesion, now faces a test of depth that could significantly shape the coming weeks.

Squad Concerns Mounting

Alisson Becker’s return was supposed to steady Liverpool, yet the 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest instead underlined the fragile state of a side struggling for rhythm. Five changes were made from the team that faced Manchester City before the international break, a reflection of both fresh knocks and disrupted preparation.

With PSV Eindhoven arriving on Wednesday in the Champions League and a trip to West Ham following on Sunday, the pressure on quick turnarounds is rising. Slot acknowledged the concern, noting that several players had returned from national duty with setbacks.

Florian Wirtz Evaluation

Florian Wirtz has already experienced an uneven beginning to his Liverpool career and his momentum stalled again after picking up a “muscular issue” while with Germany. Slot revealed before the Forest match that he expected the playmaker to make a relatively swift recovery.

“Florian should be able to play after [Forest], it depends on what happens after, but that shouldn’t be that long,” he said.

However, Wirtz did not take part in opening training on Tuesday, ruling him out of the PSV game and leaving his involvement against West Ham uncertain. His creativity is something Liverpool could do with right now, particularly as they look for ways to re-establish control in midfield.

Conor Bradley Assessment

Conor Bradley also returned from international duty with a “muscular issue”, adding to Liverpool’s concerns at right-back. Slot suggested on November 21 that the defender faced roughly three weeks on the sidelines.

“I don’t expect Conor to be part of the upcoming 22 days, maybe in the end but not in the upcoming 22 days, unless a miracle happens, which I don’t expect,” he explained.

Bradley is therefore likely to miss fixtures through mid-December, with a return around the Tottenham match appearing the earliest realistic scenario.

Jeremie Frimpong Timeline

Jeremie Frimpong, who limped off after 19 minutes in the 5-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt on October 22, has not featured since. Early expectations pointed to approximately six weeks out, and Slot’s latest update supported that view.

“Jeremie is out just as long. He’s not probably going to be available in the upcoming two or three weeks as well,” he said. “It’s going to be interesting who all of you want to see as a right full-back.”

His absence, combined with Bradley’s, has left Liverpool thin in a position that heavily influences Slot’s system.

Potential return date: December

Giovanni Leoni Long Term Outlook

Giovanni Leoni’s situation remains the most severe. The young centre-back suffered an ACL injury after an awkward landing in the 2-1 Carabao Cup win against Southampton. His setback came on his Anfield debut, a cruel blow given his promising start.

“He tore his ACL which means that he will be out for around a year,” Slot confirmed. “Being so young, coming to a new country, playing so well in your first game, it’s very hard to take the positives.”

Leoni will be sidelined until late 2026, leaving Liverpool planning without him for the long term.

Potential return date: Late 2026
