New Liverpool signing is set to be a replacement for Ibrahima Konate

Liverpool defender Jeremy Jacquet is set to be affected by Ibrahima Konate's imminent departure.

According to reports, Konate will leave Liverpool on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of June. This is a rather surprising development amid a positive update from Arne Slot regarding the Frenchman’s future just last month.

The Reds confirmed the signing of highly-rated defender on transfer Deadline Day in January, beating Chelsea to his signature.

However, Jacquet - who will officially arrive at Anfield in the summer - is facing an early disruption is his bid to settle in at his new club with Konate set to leave.

In an interview with French newspaper Ouest-France, Jacquet explained his decision to turn down the Blues in favour of a switch to Merseyside and his hope of training with Konate.

"He's going to teach me so much. There's also [fellow Frenchman] Ibou Konate, who can help me settle in.

“Training with guys like that, it doesn't get any better than that."

Standard Sport understands that Liverpool will pay a guaranteed £55m, with a further £5m in add-ons.

As part of the deal, Jacquet spent the remainder of the season with Rennes but a dislocated shoulder suffered just days after his transfer was announced means he has not featured since the start of February.

Though, after undergoing surgery, there is every expectation the 20-year-old will be fit for the start of pre-season training in July.
