Jurgen Klopp and Steven Gerrard among the stars returning to Anfield for fundraiser clash
Liverpool Legends take to the pitch again this weekend, facing Borussia Dortmund Legends at Anfield to raise money for the club’s foundation.
The Reds return to the pitch for the first time since pipping Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in October, winning 1-0 thanks to Ryan Babel’s winner.
This may prove a tougher contest, though, as this Dortmund team won a legends’ cup earlier this year. Their squad is expected to feature Mats Hummels, who was still competing in the Europa League less than a year ago before announcing his retirement after the 2024-25 season.
Liverpool will boast a formidable managerial staff, though, as Jurgen Klopp and Kenny Dalglish knock their heads together in a bid to best the German’s former club.
Here is everything you need to know about the match...
Liverpool Legends vs Borussia Dortmund Legends will take place on Saturday, March 28, with kick off at 3pm GMT at Anfield.
Liverpool will be led out by a highly accomplished managerial staff featuring Jurgen Klopp, Sir Kenny Dalglish, Ian Rush and John Aldridge.
They will have a star-studded team at their disposal, too, with Steven Gerrard, Peter Crouch and Pepe Reina among the talent.
Martin Skrtel, who made headlines in a recent legends’ match against Chelsea as he clashed with Diego Costa, has earned a recall. Ryan babel scored the winner at Stamford Bridge in a similar event in October and also returns.
Midfieler Thiago Alcantara, 34, makes his Anfield homecoming barely two years after announcing his retirement.
Dortmund are yet to confirm their team for the match, but their squad which won the Legends Cup in January featured Mats Hummels, Roman Weidenfeller, and Sokratis Papastathopoulos.
