Liverpool linked with PSG defender as Iraola eyes reunion | OneFootball

Liverpool are considering a move to sign Paris Saint-Germain defender Illia Zabarnyi as Andoni Iraola plots a reunion.

Iraola and Liverpool director Richard Hughes both know the centre-back from their time at Bournemouth and are exploring whether a deal is possible.

Zabarnyi signed for PSG from Bournemouth last summer for a fee of £54.5m and started 26 games in Ligue 1 last season.

However, the 23-year-old struggled to dislodge Marquinhos and Willian Pacho during the latter stages of the season as PSG secured a second straight Champions League title.

Liverpool are monitoring his situation, according to journalist David Lynch, in the event PSG are open to a sale. The Reds want to sign another centre-back following Ibrahima Konate’s exit for Real Madrid.

Liverpool have Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez as senior options, alongside teenagers Giovanni Leoni and Jeremy Jacquet. Zabarnyi’s experience of the Premier League and age profile make him an ideal option to add to the defensive group.
