Liverpool have made a strong push for a Premier League star just days after their season ended.

Liverpool aren't trying to waste any time in the transfer window and there are a couple of good reasons for that. Firstly, they've just lost two legendary players for free and must replace them in the squad.

But there's also a World Cup this summer, getting in the way of dealings for a solid month. Many players will want their futures sorted before the tournament and that means clubs must move now if they're to get involved for the very best.

Liverpool, then, aren't surprising many with news that they've made a strong approach to sign Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United. The boyhood Red is expected to move somewhere this summer, though it's not entirely clear where just yet.

Mundo Deportivo reports that it's now really between three: Liverpool, Barcelona and Bayern Munich. Gordon is a wanted man, then, and someone who will have his pick of enormous clubs.

The report does claim that he's leaning towards Barcelona as things stand. Liverpool, though, sound determined to change his mind and bring him back to Merseyside.

Again, we do expect this one to move quickly. The World Cup isn't far off at all and any deal likely goes through before the tournament. Watch this space.

Anthony Gordon: Situation Summary

Newcastle Campaign and Stats

As of 27 May 2026, Anthony Gordon is heavily tipped to leave Newcastle United following a turbulent end to the season. The 25-year-old winger enjoyed a highly productive campaign, netting 17 goals across all competitions—including 10 in the Champions League, where he famously scored a historic hat-trick against Qarabağ. However, as transfer rumors intensified, Eddie Howe omitted him from the squad for Newcastle's final six Premier League matches, including a season-ending 2–0 defeat to Fulham on 24 May.

Transfer Tug-of-War

A massive European bidding war has erupted for Gordon, whom Newcastle value at roughly £75 million. Fabrizio Romano confirmed today that Spanish champions Barcelona have entered direct club-to-club talks with Newcastle, with sporting director Deco reportedly swaying the winger to prioritize a move to Camp Nou. Barcelona face stiff competition from Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich—who previously agreed to personal terms with Gordon but stalled on the transfer fee—as well as long-term admirers Liverpool.

International Selection

Despite his late-season club omission, Gordon has been named in Thomas Tuchel’s final England squad for the upcoming 2026 World Cup in North America.
