Liverpool have reportedly been given a boost after selecting Yan Diomande as their ‘No.1 target’ to replace Mohamed Salah.

The Reds are expected to be really active in the transfer market following a disappointing 2025/26 campaign.

Arne Slot’s side have made an incredibly weak defence of their Premier League title, with their sudden decline making it clear that significant changes are required this summer.

Liverpool will likely target signings in various positions, but their priority will be to replace Salah, who is confirmed to be leaving on a free transfer this summer.

Salah’s form has fallen off a cliff after he was the best player in the Premier League last season and the time is right to move on, though it’ll be hard for Liverpool to replace him.

Liverpool are linked with several potential replacements for Salah, though it has been widely reported that RB Leipzig star Diomande is among their favoured options.

The 19-year-old is enjoying a breakout season for RB Leipzig, having contributed 12 goals and six assists in his 30 Bundesliga appearances.

This form has alerted several clubs, with Man Utd reportedly among the other teams interested in signing him this summer.

However, Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke is reporting that Diomande is Liverpool’s ‘No.1 target’ to succeed Salah, and he is ‘keen on the Anfield move’.

O’Rourke explained: “Diomande has emerged as Liverpool’s primary target to replace Mohamed Salah in their side.

“Obviously he is a player that they have been tracking for a while now. He’s really been ripping it up in the Bundesliga for RB Leipzig.

“I’m sure Diomande would be interested in a move to Liverpool if talks do progress between the two clubs.”

Salah’s ‘most likely destination’ revealed

Regarding Salah, he has been linked with several European, MLS and Saudi Pro League clubs for his next move.

A new report from The Athletic claims there is a ‘most likely destination’ for Salah if he decides to pursue a move to the MLS.

The report explained: ‘From a global popularity perspective, one additional name would likely eclipse all but Messi: Liverpool star Mohamed Salah. And MLS, as it casts an eye on big post-World Cup transfer business, would very much like to see the winger come to one of its teams.

‘If Salah, who will be leaving Liverpool after this season, makes a move to MLS, his most likely destination remains San Diego FC — but there is a lot to overcome for a deal to come to fruition.’
