Liverpool Transfer Plans Gather Pace with Trincao and Diomande in Focus

Liverpool’s summer recruitment drive continues to gather momentum, with reports from TeamTalk suggesting the club are exploring a significant reshaping of their attacking options.

While much attention has centred on the pursuit of Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig, fresh reports from Portugal indicate that Sporting CP winger Francisco Trincao is also firmly on Liverpool’s radar. Importantly, the two deals are not believed to be mutually exclusive.

Trincao Emerges as Serious Liverpool Target

Trincao’s numbers from last season explain why interest is growing. The Sporting winger registered 31 goal contributions, scoring 13 goals and providing 18 assists during the 2025/26 campaign. He also earned a place in the Primeira Liga Team of the Season for a second consecutive year.

According to reports, Liverpool are currently the club ‘closest’ to securing his signature and are considering whether to activate his €60m, £52m release clause.

The Portuguese international’s previous spell in England with Wolves did not fully ignite, but he has matured considerably since then. His decision making, creativity and end product have all developed, making him a far more complete player than the one Premier League supporters previously encountered.

Iraola Faces Decisions in Wide Areas

Liverpool’s interest in attacking reinforcements is understandable given the uncertainty surrounding several current options.

Cody Gakpo has been linked with a possible departure, while Federico Chiesa has openly acknowledged concerns over playing time. TeamTalk also reports that Liverpool have explored the possibility of using Gakpo in discussions involving Diomande.

The arrival of Andoni Iraola has not reduced speculation. Instead, it appears Liverpool are assessing every avenue available as they prepare for another demanding season.

Adding both Trincao and Diomande would significantly increase competition across the forward line and provide Iraola with greater tactical flexibility.

Diomande Remains Premier Target

Despite growing interest in Trincao, Diomande remains Liverpool’s primary objective.

The highly rated RB Leipzig winger is viewed as one of the most exciting attacking talents in Europe. Reports indicate Liverpool are currently best placed to agree personal terms, with strong competition from elsewhere.

The challenge is cost. Leipzig are reportedly seeking around £120m, a figure that would place Diomande among the most expensive signings in Liverpool’s history.

Whether Liverpool proceed at that valuation remains to be seen. What appears clear is that the recruitment team are determined to strengthen the squad’s attacking depth and quality before the transfer window closes.

Our View – Anfield Index Analysis

From a Liverpool supporter’s perspective, this feels like the type of ambition many hoped to see following the managerial transition.

Diomande is understandably attracting most of the headlines. Any player valued at around £120m is expected to be a transformative signing. The suggestion that Liverpool are currently leading that race is encouraging, even if the financial demands remain substantial.

Trincao is perhaps the more intriguing aspect of this report. Supporters remember his difficult spell at Wolves, but players develop at different rates. His numbers at Sporting are impressive and suggest he has become a far more productive attacker.

There is also logic behind Liverpool targeting multiple wide players. The futures of Cody Gakpo and Federico Chiesa appear uncertain, and squad depth is essential for a team competing across multiple competitions.

Fans will naturally have questions about the scale of spending required. Signing both Trincao and Diomande would represent a major commitment. However, Liverpool have often been at their strongest when recruitment has been proactive rather than reactive.

If the club genuinely believe these players can elevate the squad, supporters are likely to welcome that level of ambition. The coming weeks could prove pivotal in shaping Iraola’s first Liverpool team and determining whether this attacking rebuild delivers the quality required to compete for the biggest honours.
