Liverpool offer Florian Wirtz to Barcelona in shock transfer proposal | OneFootball

Given the current dynamics in Hansi Flick’s squad, it would be no surprise to see multiple big players leave Barcelona in 2027. The likes of Alejandro Balde, Jules Kounde and Frenkie de Jong have lost prominence in recent months, and in the latter’s case, he will have chances to leave the Spotify Camp Nou.

De Jong has regularly been linked with Premier League clubs over the course of his Barcelona career. He previously almost joined Manchester United, but now, it is their arch rivals Liverpool that he is currently most likely to end up joining, with the Anfield club having declared their interest in a move for the Dutch midfielder.

Barcelona are willing to sell De Jong, but only if they receive an offer of €70m or below. Liverpool do not want to reach this valuation, which is why they are instead proposing a swap deal involving Florian Wirtz, as per Fanatik (via El Nacional).

Liverpool want De Jong plus cash for Wirtz

Liverpool want to offload Wirtz, who has had a tough time of things since joining from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2025, and they sense an opportunity to use him to land De Jong. They have made it clear that they would also want to receive money on top of sending the Germany international to the Spotify Camp Nou, which would essentially make it a player-plus-cash deal for Barcelona to submit.

While Wirtz is a player that Barcelona officials will appreciate, there is simply no need for him in Hansi Flick’s squad. Fermin Lopez and Dani Olmo are already the no.10 options, while La Masia sensation Ebrima Tunkara is poised to make the step up to the first team in the next 12-18 months.

Even if they did need an attacking midfielder, it’s not a particularly great deal that Liverpool are proposing, given that they would be required to include cash plus De Jong. The impetus is on the Merseyside club to make their move, which is why Barcelona would only do a deal on their terms – and the aforementioned proposal including Wirtz would certainly not be that.
