Wallbanks has worked as a scout at Liverpool since 2012 after previous stints at Fulham, Manchester City Ferencvaros and Cardiff City.

He's played a key role in transfers in the past and in his new capacity, he has even more important transfer decisions to make.

He has been working in his new role at the club as a Global Talent Scouting Manager since November. Earlier this year, Anfield Watch exclusively revealed he was at the U20 Sudamericana where Liverpool made an attempt to sign Neiser Villareal.

Now Wallbanks has made the trip to Egypt for the U20 African Cup of Nations according to Egyptian site FilGoal.

The site even snapped a picture of the key Liverpool transfer man in attendance at the games.

According to the report, Wallbanks attended two matches at the tournament.

He watched the Central African Republic take on the DR Congo in a match that ended 1-3 in favour of the latter side. Afterwards, Wallbanks was also in attendance at the game between Senegal and Ghana, which ended 1-0 in favour of the Black Stars.

A user called @scoutsattending on Twitter has claimed that the two players in question Wallbanks could have been watching at the second game were Senegalese winger Yaya Dieme, who recently had a trial with Chelsea and 18-year-old Ghanaian attacker Emmanuel Mensah, who scored the winning goal in the match and plays his club football for Sogndal.

There's no information on who Wallbanks could have been watching in the first game, but we think he might have been keeping an eye on 17-year-old DR Congo right-back David Ferdinand Mukandila.

A brilliant and pacey defender, Mukandila has stood out in his statistics in both games, winning 15 of his 18 defensive duels and making 18 recoveries in the two matches.

He's also the only player at the tournament to have completed 100% of his dribble attempts out of players who have attempted at least five dribbles.

Mukandila is already on the radar of The City Group, with Girona interested in his services. Meanwhile Genk are also another team monitoring the youngster.

He looks like a real gem and might be a name to keep an eye on.
