Liverpool are aiming to continue their exceptional early season form when they visit Southampton in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

The Reds lead the way in the English top flight having swiftly embraced Arne Slot's tactical philosophy and have tasted defeat just once across all competitions this term. They have a busy week ahead with visits from Real Madrid and Manchester City but the Merseyside club have shown their ability to tangle with the best and brightest this term.

Southampton should pose less threat to Liverpool but are themselves desperate for points in their bid to beat the drop. Any complacency will be punished by the Saints, even if they do sit rock bottom of the standings.

Here is how Liverpool could line up on their return from the November international break.

GK: Caoimhin Kelleher - Is there a better number two in the Premier League? The Irishman has been in inspired form since Alisson's injury and he will be called upon again this weekend as his Brazilian senior continues his recovery.

RB: Conor Bradley - Trent Alexander-Arnold is another absentee for Slot after the right-back suffered an injury before the recent internationals. In Bradley, Liverpool have an energetic and talented deputy.

CB: Ibrahima Konate - Konate has been in imperious form this season and has thrived under Slot's tutelage. While many look good partnering Virgil van Dijk, the Frenchman has matched his skipper's performances.

CB: Virgil van Dijk - Having shaken off an injury scare, Van Dijk is available for the journey south according to his manager. You would imagine he won't be overworked by a Southampton side that have scored the fewest goals in the division.

LB: Andy Robertson - Question marks have been raised over Robertson's performances this season and he is now battling Kostas Tsimikas for a starting berth. A late winner for Scotland over the international break will be a much-needed confidence boost.

DM: Ryan Gravenberch - Gravenberch has been a surprise revelation at the base of Liverpool's midfield, transformed by compatriot Slot into an all-action holding midfielder. He's seemingly solved the Reds' number six issues.

DM: Alexis Mac Allister - A lengthy flight back from South America could limit his impact at St Mary's but Mac Allister is an essential starter when remotely fit. The Argentine's consistency is hugely impressive.

RW: Mohamed Salah - The Egyptian has been typically sensational in front of goal this season and his record against the Saints should be of concern to home supporters on Sunday. Seven goals and four assists in 11 meetings is pretty remarkable.

AM: Curtis Jones - Jones has been offered a new lease on life by Slot and even transferred his dazzling form to the international stage during his first two appearances for England's senior squad. He's jumped ahead of Dominik Szoboszlai in the pecking order.

LW: Cody Gakpo - Luis Diaz has been exceptional this season but Gakpo has matched him every step of the way. Liverpool are blessed to have a myriad of in-form forwards and Diaz's international excursions may see Gakpo get the nod at Southampton.

ST: Darwin Nunez - The Uruguayan is showing signs of life under Slot after a slow beginning to the campaign, scoring a well-taken goal against Aston Villa before the break. However, he then proceeded to miss a simple one-v-one in true Nunez fashion.
