Besiktas are actively searching for attacking reinforcements before the closure of the Turkish Super Lig transfer window and have turned their attention towards Liverpool forward Federico Chiesa. The Istanbul club previously enquired about Arsenal’s Leandro Trossard but, with that pursuit unsuccessful, discussions have now shifted to Chiesa’s situation at Anfield.
Since arriving from Juventus last summer, Chiesa has struggled to secure regular minutes under Arne Slot. The 26-year-old offered an encouraging glimpse of his talent when scoring on the opening day of Liverpool’s Premier League title defence in August, yet that has not translated into a sustained role.
Chiesa’s omission from both Liverpool’s Champions League squad and Italy’s most recent international squad underline the challenge he faces in re-establishing himself at the top level. Despite remaining under contract until 2028, his long-term future at Anfield appears far from certain.
Sources close to the situation indicate that Besiktas have made exploratory contact with Liverpool in the past 48 hours to assess Chiesa’s availability. While no advanced negotiations are currently in place, the Turkish side are said to be open to investing significantly in the winger position.
Liverpool are not prepared to sanction a loan deal and would only consider discussions around a permanent transfer. That stance makes any immediate agreement complex, but Besiktas are monitoring developments closely and could test Liverpool’s resolve before the window closes.
Were Chiesa to accept a move, he would arrive at a Besiktas side in transition following the reappointment of Sergen Yalcin as manager. The club recently parted ways with former Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and are building around striker Tammy Abraham, who joined from Roma.
Chiesa’s creativity and direct style could complement Abraham’s finishing ability, easing the goalscoring burden on the former Chelsea forward. His adaptation to Turkish football remains an unknown, but compatriots such as Mario Balotelli, Leonardo Bonucci and Nicolo Zaniolo have all experienced the Super Lig in recent years.
With the 2026 World Cup on the horizon, the next six months will be critical for Chiesa to secure the consistent game time required to return to Italy’s plans. January may yet provide an additional opportunity to reassess his Liverpool career, but Besiktas’ late approach ensures his name remains one to watch in the final stages of the Turkish market.
