Liverpool will join the race for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak only if the Sweden international is made available for transfer, a report has revealed.

Isak sits behind only Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah in the Premier League's scoring charts this season, with his return of 19 taking his all-time tally to 50 goals in just 76 appearances following his £63m arrival in 2022.

With Newcastle far from guaranteed to qualify for next season's Champions League, there has been significant speculation that Isak could look to leave the club this summer in a blockbuster deal which, given the fact he remains under contract until 2028, could cost as much as £150m.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is known to be an enormous fan of 25-year-old Isak, while the likes of Chelsea and Barcelona have both been credited with interest. Liverpool are also thought to be keen to strike a deal, but The Athletic's David Ornstein states the Reds have already taken a firm stance on a summer saga.

Liverpool will only make a move for Isak if he becomes "genuinely available" and Newcastle are sincere in being prepared to listen to offers, insisting they will not be involved in any "wild goose chase" to sign the striker.

Crucially, Newcastle have no current desire to part ways with Isak and are instead keen to extend his contract. Chief executive Darren Eales recently warned suitors the Magpies have no financial need to listen to offers for their prized asset.

That being said, a bid of £150m is enough to pique the interest of any club but Liverpool, and other suitors, will hope to see that figure drop if Isak expresses a desire to leave St James' Park this summer.

Liverpool are expected to undergo an attacking rebuild this summer. Darwin Nunez came close to leaving in January and could be made available at the end of the season, while there are doubts about the futures of Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and, perhaps most concerningly, Mohamed Salah.

Salah's contract is winding down and he could leave the club on a free transfer, although it was recently reported that his focus remains on extending his stay at Anfield.
