England defender expected to be fit in time for Champions League return to Anfield with Real Madrid
Trent Alexander-Arnold looks to be on course for a swift reunion with Liverpool when Real Madrid visit in the Champions League next month.
The England right-back left Merseyside for Spain in June after almost two decades at Anfield, with Madrid paying a fee of around £8million to release him early from his expiring contract so he would feature for them in the inaugural expanded summer Club World Cup in the United States this summer.
Alexander-Arnold has endured a stop-start opening to his career at the Santiago Bernabeu due to injury, making only five appearances across all competitions so far this season.
The 27-year-old has not played at all for Madrid since their 2-1 home win over Marseille in the Champions League on September 16, having suffered an early hamstring issue that saw him withdrawn in the opening minutes.
Alexander-Arnold has since sat out LaLiga wins over Espanyol, Levante and Villarreal, plus the heavy 5-2 defeat at the hands of rivals Atletico Madrid and thumping 5-0 win over Champions League debutants FC Kairat.
He was expected to miss around six weeks in total, leaving him in a race against time to be fit for Madrid’s visit to former club Liverpool on November 4.
However, multiple outlets now report that Alexander-Arnold is set to return ahead of that high-profile league phase clash on Merseyside, the latest showdown between the two European giants over recent years.

Alexander-Arnold’s decision to run down his contract and join Madrid was not received well by many Liverpool fans, with boos heard during his initial final appearances for the club under Arne Slot last term.
However, he was greeted by widespread cheers and applause when he came on for his last Reds outing at half-time on the final day of the season against Crystal Palace at Anfield, lifting the Premier League trophy with his team-mates and embarking upon an emotional lap of honour around the pitch.
"I didn’t know what to expect stepping out today after what had happened a few weeks ago," Alexander-Arnold said after that game.
"I wanted to play for the club one more time. I said that to the manager, and he trusted me at half-time. And to get the reception I got means more than ever.
"I’ve played hundreds of games for the club, but I’ve never felt more loved and more cared for than today.
"From six years old to 26 now - 20 years. It’s a very, very long time but I’ve loved every single minute of it.
"The ups and the downs, coming through the academy, making it to the first team, then being part of the first team properly. It’s been an honour and a privilege for me to be a part of this club.
"It’s not sunk in; it’s all I’ve ever known. At times you catch yourself thinking you’ll be back next season, but then you remember it’s not the case because things are changing.
"I’ll remember these moments for the rest of my life, especially today. It’s been the best day of my life, a very, very special day and a very special achievement for the team and the club."
