Liverpool are losing their vice-captain Andy Robertson this summer, and Mohamed Salah is following him out of the door.

Both are players who have taken on a leadership role for the Reds in recent seasons, and they are two of the longest serving players in the current squad too.

Former vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold left Anfield last summer and that followed long-serving leadership duo Jordan Henderson and James Milner leaving the club.

Current captain Virgil van Dijk has been the subject of recent transfer speculation as well, and is entering the final year of his current deal.

Liverpool has lost a lot of leaders over the last few seasons, and now all signs point to them losing another this summer.

Alisson progressing closer to Anfield exit

Alisson Becker has been Liverpool’s undisputed number one since his arrival at Anfield in 2018, but rumours are swirling of a potential exit this summer.

The Brazilian has suffered with repeated injury problems during his Liverpool career and is currently sidelined.

A report from talkSPORT late last week confirmed that Juventus were advancing in talks to sign the ‘keeper and that Liverpool have begun looking for a replacement.

Another report from TEAMtalk later confirmed that Juventus are increasingly confident of getting a deal over the line for Alisson.

The 33-year-old is another leading figure at Anfield and his departure would leave the Reds devoid of leadership in the squad.

Dominik Szoboszlai is probably the favourite to take on Robertson’s role as vice-captain ahead of next season, with the Hungarian captaining his national team, but he has also been linked with a move away this season.

Beyond Szoboszlai there is no obvious candidate to step up into a leadership role, and if Van Dijk were to leave as well it could leave the team in a very precarious position.

Alisson would be a big loss on the pitch for Liverpool, but the loss off the pitch could be just as significant and that is something the club need to factor into their decision making when deciding the ‘keepers future this summer.
