After brilliantly leading the Reds to the Premier League title in his debut campaign, Arne Slot’s difficult second season has felt much more like a stressful rollercoaster. The Reds are set to end the season without a trophy after an encouraging summer transfer window last year in which players like Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike and others arrived at the club.
The team has completely fallen out of the title race, finding themselves trailing miles behind current pacesetters Arsenal and Manchester City.
With the club now set to end the 2025/26 campaign without adding any new silverware to the cabinet, the intense media pressure on the Dutch tactician has naturally increased.
According to club legend Jamie Carragher, all the noise surrounding a potential managerial sacking might be entirely premature.
Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, Carragher dropped a highly significant update regarding what the Liverpool boardroom is actually planning behind the scenes.
The former defender openly acknowledged the current fan frustration but revealed that the Reds are not looking to part ways with manager Slot.
“Arne Slot’s job has been spoken about all season. We’ve spoken about it a lot on Monday Night Football”, said Carragher, as reported by GOAL.
“There’s probably a split in the Liverpool supporters over whether he should stay or go, but the noises I am hearing is Slot will be the Liverpool manager next season if they can secure Champions League qualification, which they look like doing right now.”
Despite the fractured atmosphere on the terraces, Carragher revealed that the internal noises he is hearing heavily suggest Slot will remain the Liverpool manager next season.
There is just one massive, non-negotiable condition attached to his survival: securing Champions League qualification.
Fortunately for Slot, crossing that specific finish line is looking increasingly probable.
Following a dramatic win against Everton, the Merseyside club are on their way to qualify for the Champions League next season.
The Anfield hierarchy appears to be remaining impressively calm throughout the storm.
Despite the obvious domestic turbulence and a recent, deflating 2-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, Slot has publicly stated that he still feels complete, unwavering support from the ownership.
