A stunned Dominik Szoboszlai was left flabbergasted after Liverpool let a two-goal lead slip at Leeds United in the Premier League on Saturday night.

The Reds were cruising towards victory when Hugo Ekitike scored two goals in quick succession early on in the second half.

That was until Ibrahima Konate clumsily fouled Wilfred Gnonto in the box, allowing Dominic Calvert-Lewin to pull one back from the penalty spot.

165 seconds later the hosts were level. Anton Stach cut into the box before firing through a thicket of defenders, catching Alisson Becker off guard for their second goal.

Liverpool did retake the lead with ten minutes to go when Szoboszlai stuck a lovely finish past Lucas Perri.

Leeds refused to stay down, however, and their persistence paid off deep into stoppage time when super sub Ao Tanake equalised from a corner.

“I don’t know what happened after 2-0. I think we thought the game was over,” Szoboszlai told Sky Sports after the full-time whistle.

“We said at the beginning of the game that this was the kind of game where you can never underestimate the team you play against.

“Maybe after the penalty, they just had their momentum to make it 2-2. We came back, so it was a good reaction from the team, but conceding again from a set-piece is not a nice way.

“What is in the dressing room, stays in the dressing room. It is not for the public.

“We have to manage it, we have to find solutions.

“There are times when you have to look at yourselves, just think and ask yourself if you did everything possible. If the answer is yes, then keep going and the momentum will come.

“Last year we became champions, now I don’t even know what position we are.

“Every team is doing well. Every team wants to win against the champions and we knew that before the season as well.

“We have to find solutions, we have to show reactions and everybody has to take responsibility. Not always the old guys or the guys that have been here longer, everybody.

“Everybody has to go on the pitch and show they are ready to fight for this badge.”
