Former Bournemouth winger knows all about the new Liverpool head coach
Antoine Semenyo has revealed what Liverpool players can expect from new head coach Andoni Iraola.
Iraola was officially appointed as Arne Slot’s successor at Liverpool on Thursday, signing a two-year contract following his departure from Bournemouth at the end of the season.
Semenyo worked under the Spaniard at the Vitality Stadium for two-and-a-half years prior to joining Manchester City in the January transfer window.
Speaking on the 'In the Mixer' podcast recently, the winger revealed what it was like to work under Iraola, perhaps providing an insight for what is in store for the Liverpool squad.
“I didn’t see it at the start. When he came in, he had his way of playing and it was very new to us, the way he structured the weeks,” Semenyo said.
“We didn’t really have any days off, so it’s very hard for a team to go from having Wednesday/Sunday off to having no days off.
“We would play on the Saturday and train on the Sunday, and the players in the starting XI would do the first 30-40 minutes of the session. You’re hanging; your legs are gone.
“You’re doing the possession [drill] and you’re running around and thinking, ‘Oh dear!’

“It was very different at the start. The results weren’t going our way and the fans were saying he needs to be sacked.
“I think we beat Burnley at home and everything changed. Everyone slowly got used to the system and it just went up from there.”
Iraola departed Bournemouth having led the club into European competition for the first-time ever, finishing sixth in the Premier League table to qualify for the Europa League.
His Cherries side also ended the campaign on an 18-game unbeaten run in the league, a sequence that included a last-gasp win over Liverpool in January.
