Mo Salah could now be returning to Liverpool in a surprise move.
Few players have ever rewritten their own story quite like the Egyptian King.
When Chelsea signed him in 2014, he was regarded as one of Europe's brightest young talents.
But after struggling for opportunities in west London, he was quickly written off by many as another player who simply wasn't suited to the Premier League. Loans to Fiorentina and Roma followed, and it seemed his chance to succeed in England had come and gone.
Rather than accepting that verdict, Salah used it as motivation.
His transformation in Italy was remarkable. He matured physically, sharpened his decision-making and developed into one of Europe's most dangerous attacking players.
By the time Liverpool brought him back to England in 2017, there were still doubters. Many questioned whether he could really lead the line for a club with ambitions of winning the biggest trophies.
He answered those doubts almost immediately.
Salah didn't just become a success at Liverpool - he became one of the greatest players the club has ever seen. Season after season, he delivered extraordinary numbers, combining goals, assists and consistency at a level that very few players in world football have managed. He wasn't a one-season wonder or a player who thrived for a couple of years.
He maintained elite standards for almost a decade.
What made Salah truly exceptional wasn't just his talent, but his mentality. Every setback seemed to make him stronger. Every season brought another level to his game. While others faded, Salah kept evolving, finding new ways to influence matches and carry Liverpool through the biggest moments.
His journey from Chelsea reject to Liverpool legend is one of football's greatest redemption stories. He helped restore the club to the summit of English and European football, winning the biggest honours while cementing his place alongside the greatest players ever to wear the famous red shirt.
Not many footballers can say they changed the history of a club. Salah can.
And there may be more history to be written at Anfield just yet.
At the time when Salah had his outburst last season, where he suggested some people didn't want him at the club many thought it could mean Arne Slot, however, others pointed to it being more aimed towards Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards.
Ultimately, these people agreed to rip up Salah's contract and let him go on a free transfer. However, we are now in the middle of the transfer window and months into Salah's confirming his departure and there's still no concrete talk of where he's going to end-up.
Could that be because the door is still open for him to return to Anfield? There were murmurs about that at the World Cup and those murmurs are going to continue.
Especially because the people who seemingly did not want him at Liverpool now leaving the club one by one.
First Slot was dismissed then we got the news that Hughes is likely to join Al Hilal come the end of the summer window and now we are hearing even bigger bombshell news.
The latest update is that Edwards is leaving the club. This has been confirmed by Paul Joyce writing in The Times, and it's a massive surprise. Edwards came back with a lot of promise, none of which have been met.
Yet there have been no signs that he would want to leave.
Now though with a year left on his contract, he has departed and there is no denying this could have significant ramifications for Salah.
Slot, Hughes and Edwards not being at the club definitely means a return to Anfield is now on the cards for the Egyptian. These were the people who will have likely opposed him staying at the club.
Now, the new people coming in to replace could think completely different and therefore could strike an agreement to bring him back.
It's a situation to keep a close eye on. The door is no clearly wide open.
