Real Madrid are reportedly ready to make a €20m offer in what would be a blow to Liverpool. The Reds will watch closely.
Liverpool are somewhat forced into the centre-back market in the upcoming transfer windows. That's thanks to Ibrahima Konate's contract situation, with the Frenchman free to leave in the summer as he comes to the end of his deal.
Though, it does go deeper than that. Giovanni Leoni's knee injury creates a lot of uncertainty there, while Joe Gomez was actually supposed to leave the club ahead of this season.
The only reason he stayed was because Liverpool's deal for Marc Guehi collapsed. And the latter is another reason why the Reds are still chasing centre-backs.
Then there's Virgil van Dijk. The captain must be replaced eventually, even if he's still the best around. Liverpool can't waste too much time finding the right player.
However, the centre-back market is seeing a fierce battle right now as Liverpool aren't the only club seeking elite options.
Liverpool have Dayot Upamecano on their shortlist, potentially as a replacement for Konate. Though, he could also be a teammate of his compatriot once again.
We think the Bayern Munich star would be a fantastic addition, too, changing the game significantly at Anfield. Bayern, however, don't want to lose him.
But Upamecano's contract will expire this summer. He wants a massive signing bonus to agree a new one, too - something like €20m.
