Even though the season has just begun, Real Madrid appear to have already kick-started the process of shoring up their defence for the season ahead.

Ibrahima Konate, in particular, has been strongly linked with a move to Santiago Bernabeu, especially with his contract expiring at the end of the season.

Real Madrid, for their part, are extremely confident about signing the Frenchman on a free transfer. The entire operation has been made even more interesting by Dayot Upamecano, Konate’s defensive partner in the French national team, offering himself to Real Madrid as well.

Real Madrid consider Konate a done deal

Nevertheless, a recent report from MARCA suggests that Real Madrid have made first contact with Konate surrounding a potential move to Bernabeu in 2026.

Liverpool, for their part, have already attempted to convince Konate multiple times to sign a new contract.

But it appears the Frenchman has no desire to remain at Anfield and wants to move elsewhere, with Real Madrid emerging as the likely destination.

That is why Liverpool are now treating Konate’s exit as a ‘done deal’, similar to how they treated Trent Alexander-Arnold last season.

This may have some implications on Konate’s game time, though, as Liverpool eventually look to prepare for life without the former RB Leipzig defender.

Keeping that in mind, it will be interesting to see whether or not Los Blancos attempt to sign Konate in the upcoming January transfer window, with earlier reports suggesting that the club could be open to spending €15 million.

Liverpool, though, are unlikely to offload him on a cut-price deal even as the defender braces for a free exit at the end of the season.
