Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) are considering a move for Spanish club Getafe as they look to build a global network, according to the Times.

The Premier League champions have been slow to embrace the multi-club model, but are now ready to take the plunge.

Bordeaux and Malaga have previously been touted as potential options, but Getafe are rated as a more stable opportunity.

Los Azulones finished 13th in La Liga last season, narrowly escaping relegation by two points.

Getafe’s long-time owner Angel Torres has announced that he will step down from his role once renovations to their home stadium, the Estadio Coliseum, are complete.

That project is expected to be completed by December 2027, paving the way for new ownership to take over.

A spokesman for Fenway Sports Group said: “FSG routinely engages in conversations and evaluates opportunities across global sports, a common process to assess ventures that align with the organisation’s strategic priorities.”

Liverpool could become the latest Premier League team to share ties with a La Liga club, following the footsteps of Manchester City, who operate under the City Football Group (CFG) banner with Girona.

Getafe could assist Liverpool in developing players as a feeder club.

The Spanish club have never played in the Champions League, but they’ve featured in the Europa League twice, in 2010/11 and 2019/20. They’ve been in La Liga for the past eight seasons.
