Saturday was a successful day for Liverpool as both the Under 18s, courtesy of a Josh Sonni-Lambie 19th strike of the season, and the first team, courtesy of five different scorers, picked up wins against Middlesbrough and West Ham, respectively.
Now it was over to Rob Page’s Under 21 side to make it a perfect three from three as the young Reds welcome Tottenham Hotspur to the AXA on a mild Sunday St David’s Day afternoon.
Sitting in sixth heading into the game but just five points behind Premier League 2 leaders Ipswich Town, Page’s charges knew a win over their 13th place opponents would open up the realistic possibility of a top of the table finish.

Despite an impressive cameo from the bench at Anfield, Page named Trey Nyoni in the starting XI and also had Calvin Ramsay available to start at right-back, as well as the recent captain Kieran Morrison in his favoured right wing role.
Joe Bradshaw was back amongst the 21 ranks following the permanent departure of Trent Kone Doherty this week, and there was a debut for Prince Cisse at centre-back with the son of Reds’ legend Djibril making the step up from the Under 18s.
Despite the strength of the side, Liverpool succumbed to an early goal when they failed to clear their lines before conceding a scruffy goal when the ball appeared to cannon off James Wilson and find its way into Armin Pecsi’s net.
The Reds responded well and were eventually back level when Morrison fired home from the corner of the box left-footed, the forward’s 11th Premier League 2 goal of the season giving the home side deserved parity before the break.
After half time, it was more Liverpool pressure, and it eventually told when Ramsay’s delivery to the far post was headed in by Cisse with the Welsh youth international marking his first appearance at the level with a goal.
However, moments later, Page’s side were carved open all too easily, and the scores were level once more, a frustrating goal to concede so soon after finally taking the lead.

Will Wright was having an afternoon of nearly moments before the powerful frontman beautifully controlled Pecsi’s long pass, held off his defender and finished superbly via a flick off the inside post to give Liverpool the advantage once more.
With the visitor pushing hard for an equaliser and time running out, it was left to Morrison to put the icing on the cake with his second goal of the afternoon, this time finishing well from the edge of the area with his right foot into the opposite corner for league goal number 13.
A hard-fought but richly deserved three points to make it nine unbeaten for Page’s U21 side and plenty to be hopeful of with the end of the regular season in sight and with a handy position of 4th heading into the final three fixtures.
Three from three this weekend…
