On Media Matters for Anfield Index, Dave Davis and Lewis Steele discussed Liverpool’s reported interest in West Ham United forward Jarrod Bowen as Arne Slot prepares for a major attacking rebuild this summer.
With Mohamed Salah leaving Liverpool at the end of the season, recruitment in forward areas has become one of the club’s biggest priorities. Alongside links to younger options such as Bradley Barcola and Yan Diomande, Bowen’s name has also entered the conversation.
The timing is significant because West Ham head into the final two games of the season sitting in the relegation zone, potentially changing the financial landscape around any future transfer discussions.
Steele admitted he does “not mind the idea” of Liverpool moving for Bowen, especially given the uncertainty surrounding Liverpool’s attack beyond Salah.
He pointed towards Bowen’s versatility and reliability in front of goal as key strengths, with 21 direct goal involvements so far this season.
“He scores goals, he can play down the middle, he can play off the right, he can play on the left,” Steele said.
For a Liverpool side that Steele believes lacks enough players capable of consistently contributing goals, those qualities stand out.
“Liverpool don’t have enough players in their squad that do that right now,” he explained.
One of the key themes of the discussion was how West Ham’s league position may affect Bowen’s future.
Steele acknowledged concerns over the England forward’s age profile, saying: “He’s too old. Do you want to be spending £50 million or £60 million on a player like that?”
However, he quickly added another possibility. “If he’s getting relegated, which as it stands he is, he might be available half price.”
That scenario could dramatically increase Liverpool’s interest, especially during a summer where the club may need to strengthen several positions under Slot.
Steele suggested that, at a reduced fee, Bowen could become “a great signing for two or three years.”

Beyond goals and flexibility, Steele also highlighted Bowen’s mentality as a reason Liverpool may view him favourably.
“He seems a good lad,” Steele said, before adding that Bowen appears “the sort that would be accountable and he would fight.”
That line felt particularly relevant given the wider criticism Steele directed towards Liverpool’s mentality and effort levels throughout the podcast.
As Liverpool prepare for life after Salah, Jarrod Bowen’s experience, work ethic and versatility could make him an increasingly serious option, especially if West Ham’s relegation battle ends badly over the final weeks of the season.
