Liverpool play their first match of 2026 on Thursday when Leeds United visit Anfield in round 19 of the 2025-26 Premier League campaign.

Both teams have been in good form of late, with the hosts unbeaten in seven matches, while their visitors are seeking to extend their run of games without defeat to six.

After a torrid November, losing three straight matches by a combined score of 10-1, Liverpool have since gotten their season back on track.

Arne Slot’s men closed out the month with a 2-0 win over West Ham United but consecutive draws with Sunderland and Leeds at the start of December did little to raise spirits.

Nevertheless, Liverpool responded positively, following up with four straight victories, most recently a hard-fought 2-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

A quickfire double from Ryan Gravenberch and Florian Wirtz—Wirtz scoring his first Liverpool goal—secured all three points to continue the recent resurgence on Merseyside.

Despite improved form, Liverpool still trail Arsenal by 10 points. With consecutive titles now out of reach, the champions are left battling for a top-four finish.

Historically, Liverpool have dominated Thursday’s upcoming matchup, with Leeds having won just one of the last 15 clashes, although the visitors triumphed 2-1 on their last Anfield visit.

Leeds have not avoided defeat in consecutive matches against Liverpool since 2001. However, their current form has raised hopes of another good result against the Reds, just over three weeks after a 3-3 draw at Elland Road.

That stalemate was the second match in a five-game unbeaten streak for Daniel Farke’s men, which began with a 3-1 win over Chelsea.

Having claimed nine of the last 15 points, the Whites now sit three points above the relegation zone on their Premier League return.

Still, Leeds have significant improvement to make away from home, where they have managed just five points from nine matches for the division’s third-worst record.

While their hosts have not been at their usual swashbuckling best on home turf this term, Thursday’s visitors are set for a stern test at Anfield regardless.
