Real Madrid will almost certainly be very busy during the remaining weeks of the 2026 summer transfer window, particularly when it comes to exits. Head coach Jose Mourinho has admitted several players that can be moved on due to not counting for him, including Raul Asencio, Eduardo Camavinga and Franco Mastantuono.

Of the aforementioned trio, Mastantuono will be the first to leave, with a loan move to Fiorentina having already been agreed. Following him out of the Bernabeu exit door could be Asencio, whose exit would allow Real Madrid to enter the market in search for another central defender, which is one of Mourinho’s demands for the remaining weeks of the transfer window.

Asencio has been linked with a move to Marseille in recent weeks, but now, Liverpool have entered the scene. As per TEAMtalk, the Premier League giants are working on a deal for the 23-year-old defender, who is a player that they have long had an admiration for.

Asencio stance on possible Real Madrid exit

Liverpool see Asencio as an interesting option to strengthen their centre-back options under new head coach Andoni Iraola, and if signed, he would compete with Jeremy Jacquet, Giovani Leoni and Joe Gomez for the starting spot alongside Virgil van Dijk. However, this is something that does not appeal to the La Fabrica graduate, whose only desire is to remain at Real Madrid and fight for a place in Mourinho’s squad.

At this stage, a deal for Asencio has not progressed due to the player’s desire to remain at Real Madrid. He has no intention of entertaining offers that come his way, and that is a big concern for Mourinho, who has already informed him that he will not be in his plans for the upcoming 2026-27 season.#

Mourinho wants a new centre-back brought in, but that will not happen if Asencio stays, which is why he may push for an exit to happen in the coming weeks.
