Reds have doubts over defensive players ahead of trip to Wembley
Liverpool have been dealt some defensive concerns ahead of Sunday’s Carabao Cup final.
Both Liverpool and Newcastle head to Wembley on Sunday with the Carabao Cup trophy on the line, as Arne Slot looks to lift his first trophy in charge of the Reds.
Slot has enjoyed a largely serene first season since replacing Jurgen Klopp, who ironically won last year’s Carabao Cup before effectively retiring from management.
Still, Liverpool were knocked out of the Champions League by PSG at the last-16 stage on penalties on Tuesday night and it will be interesting to see how they respond.
Indeed, the defeat to the French champions at Anfield may have come at a further cost too.
Trent Alexander-Arnold is now a doubt for the Carabao Cup final after he was forced off during Tuesday’s game, with Slot admitting he’d be “surprised” if the defender could feature.

With deputies Joe Gomez and Conor Bradley also ruled out for Liverpool, it seems likely Jarell Quansah will start at right-back. Midfielder Tyler Morton is another absentee with a shoulder problem.
Ibrahima Konate, however, looks set to feature. Concern was raised when the Frenchman came off during extra-time of the PSG game but Slot confirmed after the full-time whistle that the defender was likely suffering from fatigue rather than any injury.
Slot naturally went strong for the PSG clash, so it would be a surprise to see too many changes made other than those enforced upon him.
Still, Cody Gakpo made his return from a knock earlier this week and may be an option to start on the left of the attack with Luis Diaz moving centrally ahead of either Darwin Nunez or Diogo Jota.
