Trent Alexander-Arnold is ruled out with the injury he suffered against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday and Liverpool are also without both Conor Bradley and Joe Gomez.

Jarell Quansah and Wataru Endo look to most likely options for Slot but the Liverpool boss has said he could use Curtis Jones or a left-footed defender on the right.

“I think maybe even Curtis can play there,” said Slot. “And you can also play as a left-footed defender on the right side, which is what Newcastle do at the moment but on the opposite [side].”

Liverpool have been boosted by the availability of Ibrahima Konate, who has been passed fit after being forced off against PSG and will line up alongside Virgil van Dijk in defence.

Slot faces a key call on whether to start Alisson Becker or Caoimhin Kelleher in goal.

He also has big decisions to make in attack, where Cody Gakpo made his return as a substitute in extra-time against PSG but did not look fully fit.

Diogo Jota started against PSG and is vying for a starting spot with Darwin Nunez up top.

Liverpool are still waiting to learn how long Alexander-Arnold will be out.

Slot said: “So, Trent is indeed not available. He will not be there at the final. But he is still to be assessed for how long it’s going to take but we do expect him back in the end of the season.”
