Liverpool start life without Alexander Isak after the £125million signing broke his leg at Tottenham last weekend and Arne Slot is down to the bare bones in attack.

Slot has been boosted by the fitness of Florian Wirtz after he allayed injury concerns around the German.

But Mohamed Salah is at the Africa Cup of Nations and Cody Gakpo is rated by Slot as “50-50” to be fit, so Chiesa could make his first Premier League start of the season.

Chiesa’s only two starts this season have come in the Carabao Cup.

Ibrahima Konate was surpassingly absent from images from training in the build-up to the Wolves game, so there are doubts around his fitness. Andrew Robertson could have to fill-in at centre-back if Konate is not fit.

Dominik Szoboszlai is suspended so Alexis Mac Allister and Curtis Jones are also set to be among the five starters behind Ekitike.

Jeremie Frimpong returned from a two-month absence as a second-half substitute in the Spurs win and could start at right-back with Conor Bradley also a fitness doubt.

Asked about Frimpong in his pre-match press conference, Slot said: “In the weekend he was on a maximum of 30 minutes because he has been out for quite long. I think he is able to start this weekend if I make that decision.”

Alisson will start in goal ahead of Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate at centre-back.

Milos Kerkez will continue at left-back.

Wataru Endo, Joe Gomez and Giovanni Leoni remain sidelined.

Predicted Liverpool XI (4-2-3-1): Alisson; Frimpong, Konte, van Dijk, Kerkez; Gravenbech, Jones; Chiesa, Mac Allister, Wirtz; Ekitike

Injured: Isak, Endo, Gomez, Leoni

Doubts: Bradley, Gakpo

Suspended: Szoboszlai

Unavailable: Salah
