Liverpool's dream midfielder appears to be an option once again. He's back on the market.
2023 was a massive year for Liverpool as they sought to sign elite midfielders. They completely rebuilt their base, moving for Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo that year.
But the process wasn't a smooth one. They actually tried to bring in Moises Caicedo before signing Gravenberch, offering a British-record fee to sign the player from Brighton.
The Seagulls accepted the bid but Caicedo said no - he'd already give his word to Chelsea. Liverpool just had to watch on as the Blues completed a deal for him.
And that wasn't even the only time that happened in 2023. January saw Chelsea sign another of Liverpool's prime midfield targets.
But this one might be back on the market.
Liverpool pushed very hard to sign Enzo Fernandez from Benfica back in early 2023. The Argentine had only just moved there the previous summer but his performances, coupled with a starring role at the 2022 World Cup, prompted a flurry of interest.
The Reds were eager to get him and the likes of O Jogo claimed they were actually his preference. CM Jornal claimed Liverpool offered near £100m. Chelsea, however, blew everyone else out of the water with a gigantic offer and signed Enzo.
He's been a brilliant player for them ever since - but might actually be available again.
Teamtalk claim that Chelsea are willing to sell Enzo for the right price. Real Madrid are interested in him and could look to tempt the Blues into a sale.
