Liverpool Women have confirmed that their longest-serving player Gemma Bonner has signed a new contract extension.
The 34-year-old is the club’s record appearance holder in the Women’s Super League.
She is entering her 10th season in total at Liverpool, with this being her fourth year at the club since returning in November 2022.
Bonner has made 176 appearances for the Reds, and could cross the 200-game mark in the coming campaign.
Gemma Bonner has revealed that it was a ‘no-brainer’ for her to sign a new contract with Liverpool Women.
Her new contract comes despite the Reds not announcing a new manager for the upcoming campaign yet. Though the Reds are reportedly interested in hiring ex-Man City boss Gareth Taylor.
The Reds also finished seventh in the 2024-25 Women’s Super League campaign.
Bonner told the club’s website: “The club is obviously going through a bit of a transition process, but I think knowing there’s processes in place and the ambition is to get back and compete for trophies.
“I think already in the second half of last season there was progression and standards. I think that’s something that Liverpool is known for in terms of the winning mentality and, being here, is something I’m always striving to bring to the club.”
Bonner is a former England international but has not played for the Lionesses since 2019.
She will have watched on as England won Euro 2025 in the summer, with betting sites already making the Lionesses second-favourites to win the tournament again in 2029, behind Spain.
Gemma Bonner has decided to sign a new contract with Liverpool Women heading into her 10th season at the club.
She spent six years with the Reds between 2012 and 2018, before joining WSL rivals Manchester City.
Bonner then spent a year at American side Racing Louisville before returning to Liverpool in November 2022.
During her first spell at the club, the 34-year-old defender won two WSL titles with Liverpool in 2013 and 2014.
The club have been lower down the table during her second spell, with a best of fourth in 2023-24.
Liverpool Women will kick off their 2025-26 Women’s Super League season on Sunday, September 7th with the Merseyside Derby.
The Reds also face Leicester City, Aston Villa and Manchester United during the opening month of the season.
Before then, they have friendlies with Villa, Durham and Manchester United throughout August.
