A mid-season report on how the Eagles’ six loanees – Junior Dina Ebimbe, Niels Nkounkou, Hrvoje Smolcic, Simon Simoni, Krisztián Lisztes and Aiden Harangi – are getting on.

Junior Dina Ebimbe

The Frenchman with Cameroonian roots celebrated his senior international debut on Christmas Eve. After four appearances for France’s U20 and U21 teams, the 25-year-old midfielder now represents Cameroon and made his bow in the 1-0 opening win over Gabon at the Africa Cup of Nations

At club level, Dina Ebimbe and Stade Brest are currently in 11th place in France’s Ligue 1. The No.7 has registered one goal across 11 appearances, and has been substituted on or off in each of those. 

Niels Nkounkou

Niels Nkounkou is lacing his boots for Torino in Italy this season. In Serie A, which continued this weekend, the Turin club are currently in 13th position as well as being in the last 16 of the Coppa Italia, where they face Roma on 13 January. 

The Frenchman has made seven league appearances so far, four of them as a substitute. The 25-year-old has posted one assist and was in the starting line-up for the 1-0 win over champions Napoli in October. Nkounkou’s only 90 minutes came in the cup against Pisa.

Hrvoje Smolcic

Also still in the domestic cup is Hrvoje Smolcic with Kocaelispor, who are eighth in the Turkish Süper Lig. Smolcic is a core player for the İzmit-based club, with 12 starts to his name since joining in September. The defender also showed attacking instinct in the last two league matches before the winter break, contributing an assist and then a goal.

Krisztián Lisztes 

Krisztián Lisztes returned to boyhood club Ferencváros in the summer. The Hungarian record champions are currently in second place in the league. Lisztes has been limited to one substitute appearance each in the league and cup so far. Ferencváros are in a good position in all three competitions as the year draws to a close. In the league phase of the UEFA Europa League, the Budapest club are in sixth place with two matches left. 

Simon Simoni 

The Albanian youth international has been on loan at 1. FC Kaiserslautern since the start of this year. The gifted goalkeeper has featured once in Bundesliga 2 and twice in the DFB Cup so far this season.

Aiden Harangi

Aiden Harangi made 21 appearances for the Eintracht Frankfurt U21s in the 2024/25 season. The 19-year-old American has spent the second half of this year in his homeland at MLS club San Diego FC.On the way to finishing top of the Western Conference, the full-back made five starts and also featured three times in the Leagues Cup.

Harangi was sidelined for the play-offs, where San Diego fell to Thomas Müller’s Vancouver Whitecaps 3-1 in the semi-finals.
