London City Lionesses forward Freya Godfrey has signed a new long-term deal with the club.

Godfrey joined London City Lionesses last summer off the back of a successful loan spell from former club Arsenal. The player was hugely impressive in the Barclays Women’s Super League this season, chipping in with six goals and four assists.

Godfrey is one of the most talented young players in the English top flight and London City Lionesses have therefore moved to retain her services for the long term.

After signing on again at The Copperjax Community Stadium, Godfrey said “I’m made up to sign a new contract here at London City.

“I’ve loved my time here so far. It was amazing to win the Championship title in 2025 and to represent the club in their first WSL campaign where we had a really strong season.

“We have world class players here, people who have won World Cups, Champions League titles and know what it takes to win. I’m training and playing alongside players I looked up to when I was growing up such as Nikita Parris, who I watched for years in the national team, Daniëlle van de Donk when I was at Arsenal, and Delphine Cascarino is one of the best wingers in the world and to have players like that to train alongside every single day is indescribable.

“A big part of a young player’s development is game time and having been given time, I feel I’ve come on leaps and bounds on the pitch and also off the pitch.

“Last season was great. We had a strong first season in the WSL and there are good people and good vibes which is really important.

“My aim is to keep that momentum going into next season and hopefully we can be as successful as possible.”

Godfrey will be hoping to now help London City Lionesses continue their climb up the Barclays Women’s Super League table.
