Liverpool returned to winning ways in the Premier League on Sunday, beating West Ham United 2-0 at the London Stadium.
Record summer signing Alexander Isak bagged his first league goal for the club, opening the scoring with a fine finish on the hour mark.
The Sweden international expressed his delight at opening his league goal account for the Reds, but admits he is far from his best.
He told Sky Sports: “I’m aware that it has been a long time coming and I have been trying to get back to my best form. I’m still on the way, but I am happy to get that goal.
“The best feeling today is that we won the game, and that is the best way to get a good spirit in the group, but of course, I am a striker, so scoring goals will always help me.
“We have to use this win in a good way, but also be humble. We have to stay focused and keep working hard to keep this momentum.”
Isak arrived in Liverpool with high expectations but has been disappointing due to a lack of fitness.
Hugo Ekitike has been Liverpool’s first-choice striker, but Isak can overtake him in the pecking order if he can build on today’s performance.
Liverpool need the Swedish forward to rediscover his best form to get their campaign back on track.
With Mohamed Salah looking past his best, Liverpool’s season may hinge on Isak.
Liverpool take on Sunderland on Wednesday evening at Anfield and will hope Isak can fire them to another victory.
