Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe says he plans to give Ruben Amorim three years at the club to prove himself.
Amorim has endured a disappointing spell at United since taking over last year, overseeing a 15th-place Premier League finish last season.
But speaking to The Business Podcast, Ratcliffe reiterated that the Portuguese boss will get time.
“Ruben needs to demonstrate he is a great coach over three years,” he said.
Asked if he plans to give him at least three years, Ratcliffe said: “Yes. That is where I would be. Three years. Because football is not overnight.
“It’s three years. You also look at [Mikel] Arteta at Arsenal. He had a miserable time over the first couple of years.
“We have to be patient. We have a long-term plan. It isn’t a light switch.
“You can’t run a club like Manchester United on knee-jerk reactions to some journalist who goes off on one every week.”
