Roberto López Ufarte and Gonçalo Guedes are framed as Real Sociedad’s game breakers. According to Diario Vasco, their flair can tilt matches and finals in a single moment.
La Real’s title winners had their ‘pequeño diablo’ in López Ufarte, whose wing play thrilled crowds. He struck first in the 1987 final against Atlético in Zaragoza, decided after extra time and penalties in La Romareda’s heat.
This Real have another, different in profile but just as mischievous, in Guedes. He said a repeat of that outcome would do.
Guedes wants this to be his best goalscoring season. López Ufarte targeted at least 10 goals with similar assists and told him he will beat that. His impact is clear and his four million euro fee looks a bargain.
López Ufarte recalled Prince Rainier of Monaco coined his nickname after a youth title. He rates today’s forwards higher and says Guedes stands out for pace, dribbling, vision and a fantastic strike.
Guedes says winning the Copa with La Real would bring huge pride. Already decorated with major club and Portugal honours, he accepts Atlético will be a stern test and urges seizing the moment and following the coach’s plan. He adds the key will be staying tight as a team, and expects a packed crowd to help, promising they will give everything for the fans. He calls himself a bit grumpy, believing that edge helps when you are fighting for everything.
