The Owls are awaiting the extent of the injury suffered by the winger.

While it has not been perfect, Sheffield Wednesday have enjoyed an encouraging start to the season and already look like they will be challenging towards the top of the table.

Having narrowly defeated Wycombe Wanderers 2-1 last night, the Owls have now made it three wins from their opening four games, with a home defeat to Bradford City the only blemish on their League One record.

Henrik Pedersen's side came from behind to defeat the Chairboys at Adams Park as Louie Barry and Jamal Lowe cancelled out Cauley Woodrow's opener.

However, there were some worrying scenes for Wednesday supporters as Barry left the field injured, and there has been a concerning update about his fitness.

The winger arrived in South Yorkshire from Aston Villa on a permanent deal this summer following a string of loan spells up and down the EFL.

After putting Sheffield Wednesday ahead last night, the 23-year-old appeared to have jolted his ankle on the artificial surface just inches away from the touchline.

The Sheffield Star's Alex Miller reported from the ground that Barry left Adams Park on crutches wearing a protective boot and will be the subject of a scan to determine the seriousness of what was described as a freak injury.

Pedersen has blamed the artificial surface for the injury, while The Star states in another report that there is no suggestion that the pitch surrounding breached any FA ruling.

Of course, the extent of his injury is unknown, but the fact that he left Adams Park in a protective boot is a concern for the club.

While it is the early days of the season, the 23-year-old has shown plenty of attacking threat, and there is every reason to believe that he could surpass the 15 goals he scored for Stockport County during the 2024/25 League One campaign.

On loan forward Kieran Morrison replaced the injured winger and did a decent enough job, but there is clearly nobody at Barry's level waiting in the wings.

Pedersen does have a glut of talented forwards at his disposal, though, so he may decide to shake up the frontline and give Ali Al-Hamadi or Harry Gray an opportunity.
