Luc Holtz has been unveiled as FC Metz head coach on a two-year deal. President Bernard Serin said the Luxembourger was the club’s first choice.
The 56-year-old, presented to the media on Friday, becomes the 49th coach in Metz’s history. He will lead the team in Ligue 2.
He succeeds Benoît Tavenot and will be joined by compatriot Mario Mutsch, who played for Metz from 2009 to 2011. His remit is an immediate return to Ligue 1.
Holtz previously managed Luxembourg from 2010 to 2025. He has left SV Waldhof Mannheim after being released from the final year of his contract with the German Third Division club.
Metz had targeted him in 2017 and again in January after Stéphane Le Mignan’s dismissal. The club also considered Olivier Pantaloni, Stéphane Gilli and Frédéric Taquin.
Pre-season starts on 25 June with three days of medical tests. The players will return to the pitches at the Frescaty training centre on 29 June.
