Lucas Chevalier could depart PSG

Lucas Chevalier (24) could leave Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season, just one year after his €55m arrival from Lille OSC, as per a report from L’Équipe.

Chevalier arrived at PSG last summer. He was the successor to Gianluigi Donnarumma and the heir to Mike Maignan’s throne as France’s No.1. There was plenty of pressure and Chevalier, in his opening months at the Parc des Princes, has struggled to handle it.

A string of unconvincing performances in the Autumn led Luis Enrique to enact a change between the sticks. Matvey Safonov has come in since the turn of the calendar year. The Russian has provided the assurances that Chevalier could not and has therefore retained his place.

Chevalier’s demotion, naturally, could have a bearing on his future. L’Équipe understands that it is unlikely that the Frenchman will accept being a No.2 for next season, and so a lot will depend on whether Luis Enrique revisits the hierarchy and then, if he does not, how much PSG demand for the shotstopper and, perhaps, their openness to allowing him to leave on loan.
