Lucas Digne broke his silence on Thursday, two days after France’s 2026 World Cup semi-final defeat to Spain, saying he is first disappointed in himself. According to L'Équipe, he also expressed sorrow for the team and their efforts.

The 32-year-old conceded a penalty for a foul on Lamine Yamal in the French box, and Mikel Oyarzabal converted in the 22nd minute to open the scoring in the 0-2 loss.

Digne, capped 63 times, started all of France’s knockout matches at the tournament. He was replaced by Théo Hernandez in the 72nd minute on Tuesday.

He said he remains proud to have represented the country, highlighting its richness, diversity and the people who make it.

Despite the disappointment, he added that the group still have a podium to chase.
