Lucas Paqueta ruled out of Brazil’s last-16 tie after thigh injury | OneFootball

Lucas Paqueta has suffered a thigh muscle injury and will miss at least Brazil’s last-16 tie. The federation said in a statement he will follow an intensive treatment plan overseen by the national team’s medical staff to speed his return.

Paqueta was withdrawn at half-time of Monday’s 2-1 win over Japan in the round of 32, replaced by Endrick. He later returned to the bench in flip-flops and was visibly limping.

The midfielder underwent an MRI in New York on Tuesday, which revealed a muscular lesion in a thigh.

Brazil will face the winner of Norway versus Ivory Coast on Sunday at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, on the outskirts of New York.

It is the Seleção’s second hamstring issue of the tournament after Raphinha sustained a similar problem.
