Many Juventus fans believe Alessandro Del Piero should return to the club in some capacity because he remains their favourite son, but the Bianconeri may have more urgent priorities at present.

The former striker enjoyed a stellar career in Turin, spending two decades on Juventus’ books and helping the club win major trophies. He demonstrated his loyalty when he remained with the team in Serie B, helping them return to the top flight before leaving in 2012, despite wanting to stay in Turin for longer.

Del Piero continues to receive a warm reception whenever he returns to watch Juventus at the Allianz Stadium, and he would reportedly be happy to work for the club again. During the summer, supporters expected him to return, but Juventus appointed Giorgio Chiellini to a prominent non-playing role instead.

Del Piero Return Debated

Calls for Del Piero’s return are unlikely to stop, but Luciano Moggi believes Juventus currently have more important matters to address. The club must first concentrate on building a competitive team and establishing a clear direction.

He said via Calciomercato:

“Del Piero is an icon who looks good everywhere, but right now Juventus’ priority is probably to build a strong team that scares opponents and to have managers who know what they’re doing and what they have to do.”

Moggi’s comments suggest that Del Piero’s return should not be treated as an immediate necessity. Although his presence would inspire supporters and strengthen the club’s connection with its history, Juventus must focus on solving problems within the team.

Juventus Focus on Progress

The Bianconeri need to assemble a squad capable of competing for major honours and appoint managers who can provide clear tactical guidance. Those objectives are likely to take priority over adding another former player to the club’s structure.

Del Piero could still return in the future, particularly because of his enduring relationship with Juventus. However, the club may first want to establish stability on the pitch before deciding what role the legendary striker could fill.

For now, Chiellini remains the former player entrusted with an important position, while Del Piero’s potential return continues to appeal to fans. His eventual involvement could be valuable, but the immediate priority is building a team capable of challenging opponents again.
