Luis Diaz has dropped a significant hint suggesting he wants to stay at Premier League leaders Liverpool.

The 28-year-old has taken on a new role this season under the management of Arne Slot, straying away from his favoured left wing role to play more centrally.

The change of position has helped Diaz to be more effective at the sharp end of the pitch – his 13 goals with three months of the season remaining match the most he's ever achieved in a single year at Liverpool – and the club are closing in on the Premier League title after pulling 13 points clear of Arsenal at the top.

But even though things are going well for Liverpool in both domestic and European competition, Diaz's future has never been certain. The Colombian, a native Spanish speaker, has been repeatedly linked with a move to Catalan giants Barcelona, despite the club's ongoing financial strife.

In comments made to Liverpool's club channels, Diaz, as you'd expect, has indicated he remains fully committed to the club, and in particular referenced a desire to emulate the accomplishments of other Colombian players who have played in the Premier League.

"Now and again, I find out about the stats when people post them on social media," Diaz said. "But how nice it is to be getting close to such great fellow Colombian players like Hugo [Rodallega] and all the others.

"It's a real pleasure for me to be right there close behind them and I realise that maybe I will catch them at some point. You could say that it's another one of those personal targets that I have. I know that things are going well for me and I'm in decent form.

"What I want the most is to keep making history and, first and foremost, that Colombians who come over to England to play really leave their mark. That's key for us all now to give a positive image of our country, just like they all did. Now those of us here are trying to do just that. I'm very happy with that and we hope to continue doing the same things in future."

Diaz has scored the fourth-highest number of Premier League goals by a Colombian, trailing Juan Pablo Angel (44), Hamilton Ricard (31) and Hugo Rodallega (29) with his current tally of 25.
